The Maldives and Belgium have a long history of relations. The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Belgium on 3 October 1977 and the Embassy of Maldives in Belgium was established in Brussels on 27 October 2010.

Her Excellency Geela Ali presented her Letter of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe on 19 June 2024.
