Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel concludes official Visit to Saudi Arabia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel concluded his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today. The visit undertaken on the invitation of Foreign Minister, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud underscored the deep fraternal ties between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia,  reaffirming the strong longstanding partnership between the two nations. 

On his visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel held productive discussions with his counterpart Foreign Minister His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud and senior dignitaries of the government of Saudi Arabia. Discussions centered on further enhancing the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries as well as future areas of collaboration. During the meetings, Foreign Minister Khaleel provided a  comprehensive briefing on the economic priorities and efforts to diversify Maldives economy ensuring stability and growth in key sectors, such as tourism, infrastructure and renewable energy. 

During the visit, Minister Dr. Khaleel also interacted with the resident Maldivian Community in Riyadh and students in Medinah and inquired about their well-being. In addition Foreign Minister visited the Embassy of Maldives in Riyadh and Consulate of Maldives in Jeddah and emphasised on the close cooperation between both missions in supporting Maldivians residing and travelling to Saudi Arabia especially for Hajj and Umrah, while also working to enhance diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries. 

Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Secretary, Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed and Joint Secretary Ms. Khadeeja Najeeha.

President of Estonia officially welcomes President Dr Muizzu

President of Estonia, His Excellency Dr Alar Karis, welcomed His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the delegation, who are currently on an official visit to Estonia at the invitation of the Estonian President. The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace at Kadriorg this afternoon.

The Estonian military played the national anthems of both countries during the event. Afterwards, President Dr Muizzu and President Dr Karis inspected the Guard of Honour.

During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu was greeted by and introduced to dignitaries from Estonia, followed by the introduction of Maldivian dignitaries to President Dr Karis. The Presidents then took a commemorative photo following which President Dr Muizzu signed the Visitor's Book at the Palace.

President Dr Muizzu's visit to Estonia will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring partnership opportunities in digital technology, cybersecurity, e-governance, climate issues, and education between the Maldives and Estonia.

First Meeting of the High-Level Core Group between the Maldives and India held today

The First meeting of the High-Level Core Group (HLCG) between the Maldives and India to implement ‘A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership’ took place today, in Male'. 

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, both sides reviewed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, on areas outlined in the vision document set forth by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi following their meeting in October last year.

Today’s discussions focused on a wide range of issues, including development cooperation, trade and commerce, digital financing, health cooperation, people to people linkages, defence and maritime security cooperation.

The second meeting of the High-Level Core Group will be held in India in April 2025.
